Staying Hydrated

FullSizeRender

السلام عليكم

We all know how important it is to say hydrated. Have you been drinking enough water lately?

According to a report in the Institute of Medicine, the “general recommendations for women at approximately 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of total water — from all beverages and foods — each day, and men an average of approximately 3.7 liters (125 ounces daily) of total water.”

So how much water should we actually have to drink, without the food intake accounted for?

The Mayo Clinic recommends that for a healthy adult individual, “an adequate intake (AI) for men is roughly about 13 cups (3 liters) of total beverages a day. The AI for women is about 9 cups (2.2 liters) of total beverages a day.” Children will need less water than adults, and people who are ill often need additional fluids.

You’re probably thinking that 2.2-3 liters sounds a bit more than the “8 glasses a day” that is usually thought to be sufficient for both men and women.

Guess we should be a bit more mindful.

I’ve started carrying a (large) water bottle around with me while I’m out for the day. Depending on the size of your bottle, if you fill it up in the morning and tell yourself that you need to drink the entire bottle (and maybe refill it and drink a second one if it’s small), you should be getting enough fluids in no time. Good luck!

بسم الله

It’s so hard, for me. Which is crazy, while living in Florida; I need to hydrate more often because of the heat. But refilling the water while I’m out is the problem, Florida water does not taste great. I think I will try too though 😉 I guess I need to shop for a new bottle.

Same here! The heat is merciless. lol I try to bring a big bottle of water to school every day. It actually keeps me from buying sugary beverages that I don’t need….. except for my morning coffee. 😉 Target has some cute water bottles the last time I looked.
